Summer school of archeologists

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011From September 26 till October 10, 2011 Kazakhstan for the first time hosted the summer school of archeologists of the base of Turkestan archeological expedition. The young scientists form CIS countries studied monuments examined on the State program “Cultural heritage”.

The event was held in terms of the Year of historical and cultural heritage in CIS countries under the auspices and with the support of Inter-State fund of humanitarian cooperation of CIS member-states. The summer school was organized by Margulan Institute of archeology of the Ministry of education and science of Kazakhstan.  Young archeologists of Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan took part in the work of the school. A number of CIS states (Moldova, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia) have already held such events with participation of Kazakhstani people.

The school of archeologists has organized a practical research of ancient temple Kultobe in the territory of the National museum Azret-Sultan in Turkestan. The participants of the project also learned the most important monuments of the South Kazakhstan and results of their research (ancient settlement Sidak, Sauran, Zhuantobe, Otrar, barrow Borizhary, monuments of cultic architecture Sairam and Arystan Baba).   All the above-mentioned archeological monuments are examined from 2004 in terms of the State program “Cultural heritage”.
