System of tamga and use of tamga of Old Turks, Kipchak people and Mongols has been studied

Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 In terms of the project “Traditional system of tamga and use of tamga among the Kazakh people (XV – first half of XX cc.): historical and contrastive analysis of museum sources” realized according to the “Cultural heritage” State program, the system of tamga and use of tamga of Old Turks, Kipchak people and Mongols has been studied.

For the comparative analysis they examined the museum exhibits that has tamga allegedly of Old Turkic and later periods, materials on tamga of “sarmats (dakho-massagets) - alans” from the famous sanctuaries of Western-Kazakhstani Ustyurt, in particular “Baite-3”. 256 Old Turkic tamgas were collected, they are thoroughly analyzed.

112 referential and report cards of tamgas of all tribes and clans of the Kazakhs have been prepared. Scientific literature regarding the use of tamga was studied. Written and museum sources, including archive materials of Orenburg and Omsk were collected.

Research works on archeographic analysis and determination of the peculiarities of the system of tamga use of the Kazakh tribes and clans of XV-XX cc. are continued, as well as the collection and systematization of materials.
